Hunt Words
Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries. Each guess shows which letters are in the word and where.
How to play Hunt Words
- Type a guess. Any real five-letter English word. Press Enter to check it.
- Read the colours. Green: the letter is in the word and in that spot. Yellow: the letter is in the word, but somewhere else. Grey: the letter isn’t in the word at all.
- Narrow it down. Use what you learned in your next guess. The keyboard keeps track of which letters you’ve ruled in and out.
- Six tries. Find the word in six guesses or fewer. Then press Next word for another one; there’s no daily limit.
Tips for better guesses
- Open with common letters. E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S and N are the most common letters in five-letter English words. A first guess like slate, crane or arise tests several of them at once.
- Second guess: new letters. If the first guess found little, try a word with five letters you haven’t used yet, rather than reusing the greys.
- Letters can repeat. Words like sweet or apple have a letter twice. If one copy shows yellow or green and another grey, the word has that letter only once.
- Think about where letters usually sit. Many words end in -er, -ly, -ch or -ed, and S is common at the start. Use these patterns when only a few letters are left.
About the words
The hidden words are everyday English words. Your guesses can be any word from a large public-domain dictionary, so unusual words are fine too. Your wins and streak are saved on your own device only.
